electric scooters for kids

An electric scooter for kids is a great present or gift that will be gladly accepted by any child.
The question is which scooter will best suit the child?
We have researched the Internet for the best electric scooters available in the UK to suit particular children.
Here are some facts that need to be taken into consideration before making your decision.

How old is the child?
Generally, electric scooters are not recommended for children under 8 years of age by manufacturers.
The maximum weight of the child for the smaller style scooters is up to a maximum of 120 pounds and travels up to a speed of 6mph.
The larger electric scooters are recommended for children 13 years of age and up. They will support riders up to 220 pounds (adult size) and will travel in excess of 10mph.

Where will the scooter be ridden?
If the scooter will be used on hilly areas, then the larger model electric scooters are recommended as the motors are more powerful to climb up the hills, the only down side to this is that they are faster also.
There are some scooters that require a small  kick off manually to a speed of 3 miles per hour but once the scooter rider is travelling, the scooter then ramps up to a speed of up to a speed of 10 miles per hour.
Now, this is fast enough for them to have alot of fun on, yet not enough that they will be a nuisance on the roads or paths.

Some electric scooters have belt driven motors and others are chain driven. The belt driven scooters are generally quieter.
They have a  front hand operated brake which is definitely a must.
It is also a good idea when introducing a scooter to your child to teach them  how to steer out of situations they may come across such as sloping paths.

Battery life
Most scooters have a battery life of approximately 40 minutes usage. It then needs to be charged. Generally, they do come with their own tools, batetty charger and should be backed by a manufactures warranty.

Optional extras to look for
For ease of storage and transport, look for a scooter that includes folding handle bars and or handlebars that can be removed from the body. This makes it easier to transport.

Another bonus is a wide standing surface which allows both feet to be placed on together. This can make riding the scooter a little more comfortable if the feet are side by side.
Look for a scooter that is solid and sturdy and has a large tyre up front. This helps with navigating through and over all those bumps and rocks.
Keep in mind the rider is responsible for obeying all the local, state and the federal laws when riding a scooter and must adhere to the regulations.
